In the era of Japan’s samurai, warriors were never without their swords, always prepared to defend their honor. Although today’s world is far less dangerous, there are still times when a hint of samurai spirit is useful, such as when tackling a stubborn thread or a difficult snack package. Introducing the mini samurai sword scissors, a distinctive tool that embodies the samurai’s essence through its design.

These petite scissors are the latest creation from Nikken Cutlery, a company located in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, a region with a rich history of swordsmithing. Nikken has developed three models of these scissors, each inspired by a renowned historical katana.

The first model takes its cue from the Heshikiri Hasebe, the sword of the 16th-century warlord Oda Nobunaga. The scissors boast a deliberately smudged metal finish, mimicking the hamon, or tempering marks, that are a hallmark of traditional Japanese sword-making techniques.

The second model is inspired by the Izumi no Kami Kanesada, used by Hijikata Toshizo, the vice-commander of the legendary 19th-century Shinsengumi group.

Rounding out the collection is the Yamato no Kamiyasusada, modeled after the sword of Shinsengumi member Okita Soji.

Nikken Cutlery is offering these samurai scissors through a Japanese crowdfunding platform, with prices starting at 2,310 yen for a set that includes the scissors and a pouch. This intriguing combination of historical tribute and practical functionality makes for a captivating addition to any collection.
